This competition is organized by Wimbledon Circle as a contribution to the life of the Province. The first competition was held in 1979 and it has been held annually ever since (except for 2003 when we preferred to celebrate our 1000th meeting).
In 2011 104 entries from 20 contestants representing 8 circles and, of course, 4 winners. The Wimbledon Cup, for the best in the "General" class was won by Brother Andrew Wilson (Reigate Circle), with his picture entitled "Lilac Breasted Roller". This year saw another break with a recent tradition, the four winners were all Brothers, no lady winner! However, for none of the winners was this a breakthrough ocassion, they had all been there before! Chris Woodward's entry in the "Family" class with "Is that me?" emphasised his versatility, as he had also won previously in the "General" class. Chris Devereux (Guildford Circle) moved from last years position as the winner of the Vox Pop to take the "Unusal/Bizarre" class with his well observed picture "Odd one out" while last years cup-winner, Robert Smith (Coulsdon) moved to take the Vox Pop prize. The judges were Provincial President Tony Thompson (Woking), Tony Hemy (London, South West) and Mrs Anne Powell. During the judging about 60 people enjoyed a supper of roast lamb etc.
Here are scanned copies of the winning prints and one from Robert's set.
