Arrangements and Rules

This competition is organized by Wimbledon Circle as a contribution to the life of the Province. The first competition was held in 1979 and it has been held annually ever since (except for 2003 when we preferred to celebrate our 1000th meeting and 2018 for our 100th birthday). ARRANGEMENTS for the evening in 2019

a) This event will be held on Thursday 31st October 2019 at the Sacred Heart Parish Halls, Edge Hill, Wimbledon, SW19 4LU.

b) Entrance will be via the Lower Hall door only. The meeting for Brothers will commence at 19:30 with registration open from 18:30 in the Lower Hall.

c) Digital entries cannot be submitted on the night; paper entries on the night can be submitted in the Upper Hall with discretionary acceptance until 18:45.

d) Before the meeting, drinks will be available for Brothers and Ladies in the Parish Lounge.

e) The ladies and guests will be able to view the photos from about 19:30.

f) All present will be encouraged to vote before 21:00 for their own favourite photo.

g) A three course meal (£30) will be available from 20.15 in the Upper Hall. To ensure that adequate catering arrangements are made, please could you advise our VP, Bill Sathanathan, by Saturday 21st October if you will be staying for dinner and the number of guests attending. h) A raffle will take place during the evening with proceeds going to the President's charity, Aid to the Church in Need

i) Results will be announced by 22:00

j) Dress for the meeting will be anything for Halloween or 'Smart Casual'

RULES for 2019


This year entries will again be accepted either electronically or as traditional paper prints. Electronic entries will be printed by Wimbledon Circle, on 'A5' size paper and will be hung alongside traditional prints. Please read the following rules carefully.

  1. Open to all Catenians, their wives and widows and guests of Province 19 plus adjacent Circles , except professional photographers.
  2. There will be 3 Categories
    1. Fun for the Wimbledon Cup;
    2. Family / Friendship for the Barbara Golden Trophy;
    3. Faith for an Award.
  3. Any contestant may submit up to three entries per category (i.e. nine in all) and must use the web-site if submitting electronically. Each contestant should submit only once.
  4. Each entry must be one photograph taken in the past year by the contestant.
  5. If submitted electronically, it must be sent between 30th September and 29th October 2019 using the dedicated page on the Wimbledon web-site (use the 'Upload Entries' tab in the PhotoNight group); the page will specify the information required and its format.  It will include:
    1. Contestant's Name
    2. Circle Name
    3. Caption or title
    4. E-mail address (which must be unique to the entrant)
    Acknowledgements of receipt will be made.
  6. If submitted traditionally it must be an unmounted print and must not be larger than "A5" (148mm x 210mm) in 'landscape' or 'portrait' and have the following on the back:
    1. Contestant's Name
    2. Circle Name
    3. Caption or title 
    The contestant must provide a separate caption for each print which will be displayed with the photograph and should be suitable for reading at 3 feet. Please include an e-mail address or an SAE if acknowledgement required. Paper Entries should be sent IN ADVANCE please to:

    or they may be accepted on the night during Circle registration until 18:45 at the discretion of the organisers.
  7.  There is no entry fee.
  8. Each entry will be judged against the others in its category, on the basis of its "appeal" to the judges.
  9. The winner of the first 2 Categories will be awarded the Wimbledon Cup and Barbara Golden Trophy respectively - to be held for one year
  10. A 'vox populi' prize will be awarded based on the opinion of those present
  11. Prints may be collected at the end of the evening, OR they will be returned by post if a stamped addressed envelope is supplied.
